One waitress in Connecticut is expressing gratitude after a customer left her a $500 tip to help pay for a new hearing aid.

“I was in shock. I’m still in shock. It’s not something that happens every day,” Keri Marie Carlson told WTNH.

Carlson said she was walking a customer to his table when he noticed she was having a difficult time hearing him. She told the customer it was because one of her hearing aids was broken.

Shockingly, the customer gave Carlson a $500 to help fix it.

“I didn’t say I needed the money or anything,” she said. “He just came in the back, and said, 'I am not going to take no for an answer'… He said, 'I can’t let you go home like this.'”

Carlson said she tried to give the customer - who wishes to remain anonymous - his money back, but he said, “No. You deserve this.”

Carlson said she has one message for the caring customer:

“I want to thank you from the bottom of my humble heart for giving me such a gift.”
